Diagnostic Autism
Assessment

Autism is a lifelong neurodevelopmental difference which impacts how people view, communicate and interact with the world.

It is important to understand that children and young people experience autism differently. Some children and young people may even attempt to “mask” their difficulties around certain people or settings in order to fit in. If you notice that your child has been struggling with their social communication, language development or with repetitive and restricted behaviours, an autism assessment may be appropriate.

1

Difficulty interpreting social cues, forming friendships, and social situations

2

Sensitive to sensory stimuli such as loud noises, textures, or tastes

3

Increased anxiety around routine changes, social situations, and sensory differences

4

Preferring set routines and structures

5

Not being able to understand sarcasm, and thinking literally

6

Intense interest in certain topics

Signs of Autism in Children

How Many Signs Does Your Child Identify With?

Signs of Autism in children and young people are not a one-size-fits-all, and can be different for every individual.

Getting An Assessment

Why Pursue a Diagnostic Autism Assessment?

Early identification and diagnosis can open the door for your child to develop necessary skills to fulfil their potential and thrive.

A Better Understanding
A diagnosis can help your child understand more about themselves, their behaviours, thoughts, and emotion to help build a better sense of self-identity
Adjustments
A lot of families often find that getting a diagnosis allows others to make the changes and reasonable adjustments needed to support their child, for example, additional educational support
Self-Belief
Many children with Autism develop negative beliefs about themselves e.g. 'Why can't I fit in? Knowing they have Autism can help them see that it is not their fault and they can learn ways of managing their Autism.

The Assessment Process

What Does An Autism Assessment Involve?

The assessment will involve an appointment with a qualified clinician to review the presence of the autistic characteristics in greater detail and assess them in line with the diagnostic criteria.

What is Young Wellbeing Hub?

Young Wellbeing Hub is a CQC-regulated neurodevelopmental assessment clinic specialising in children and young people. We provide online ADHD assessments, autism assessments, combined assessments, and medication management services.

Yes. We are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care services in England. This means our services meet nationally recognised standards of quality and safety.

We provide assessments and support for children and young people aged 7 to 17.5 years. Our services are available UK wide, meaning families across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland can access us.

Yes, all of our assessments are conducted online. This means your child can be assessed from the comfort of your own home, without the need to travel. Online appointments are just as thorough and clinically robust as in-person ones.

No, we do not offer Right to Choose (RTC) assessments. Right to Choose is an NHS pathway and we are an independent private clinic. If you are seeking an NHS-funded assessment, you would need to speak to your GP about the Right to Choose pathway separately.

What Type of Assessments Do You Offer?

We offer three types of neurodevelopmental assessments:

  • ADHD assessment – for children presenting with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity difficulties
  • Autism assessment – for children who may be autistic or show signs of autism spectrum conditions
  • Combined assessment – for children where both ADHD and autism are a possibility, conducted together to give a comprehensive picture

We assess children and young people from the age of 7 up to 17.5 years old.

If you are unsure whether your child needs an ADHD assessment, autism assessment, or combined assessment, we can help guide you. Getting in touch with our team and describing your concerns will help us point you in the right direction.

No, you do not need a GP referral to book with us. You can contact us directly to arrange an assessment for your child.

Assessment length varies depending on the type. Our team will provide you with specific timing details at the time of booking so you know exactly what to expect.

Our assessments are thorough and clinically rigorous. They typically involve gathering background information, a clinical interview with parents or carers, and direct interaction with your child. Depending on the assessment type, we may also use standardised questionnaires or rating scales completed by parents and school.

School information is an important part of a comprehensive assessment, particularly for ADHD and autism. We may ask you to share questionnaires or rating scales with your child’s school as part of the process.

How Quickly Can We Be Seen?

We have no waiting list. Once your appointment is booked, you can be seen as soon as the appointment date arrives. This means there is no lengthy delay before your child’s assessment begins.

Simply get in touch with our team. We will discuss your child’s needs, help you choose the right assessment, and book you in at a time that suits your family. Because we have no waiting list, appointments are available promptly.

Yes. Because our assessments are conducted online, we can see families from anywhere across the UK, including England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

Our team will send you clear guidance ahead of your appointment. This typically includes pre-assessment questionnaires and information about what to expect on the day. We recommend finding a quiet, private space for the appointment and ensuring your device, camera, and microphone are working.

Yes, both parents or carers are welcome to participate where appropriate. Please let us know at the time of booking so we can accommodate everyone involved.

When Will We Receive The Feedback Report?

Following your child’s assessment, your comprehensive written feedback report will be ready within 4 weeks. This report will detail the findings of the assessment and any clinical recommendations.

The feedback report is a detailed written document summarising the assessment findings, clinical observations, diagnostic conclusions (if applicable), and recommendations for support. It can be shared with schools, GPs, and other services as needed.

Yes, absolutely. The report belongs to you and your family, and you are free to share it with any relevant professionals such as your GP, paediatrician, school SENCO, or local authority.

Our team is available to answer any questions you have following receipt of the report. We want to make sure you fully understand the findings and feel confident about the next steps.

How Much Do The Assessments Cost?

Our assessment fees vary depending on the type of assessment. Please get in touch with our team for a full breakdown of current pricing.

Yes. We offer flexible payment options through Klarna, allowing families to spread the cost of their child’s assessment. This makes our services more accessible and manageable for families.

We are a private clinic and our services are not currently NHS-funded. Some private health insurance policies may cover neurodevelopmental assessments — we recommend checking directly with your insurer. We do not offer Right to Choose NHS pathway assessments.

We are transparent about our pricing. The cost of your assessment includes the clinical appointment and the written feedback report. If any additional services are required, these will be discussed and agreed with you in advance.

Do You Offer Medication Support?

Yes. Alongside assessments, we provide medication management and titration support for children and young people with ADHD. This involves working with our clinical team to find the right medication and dose for your child.

Titration is the process of carefully adjusting medication dosage to find the most effective and well-tolerated level for your child. It involves regular review appointments with our prescribing clinician and ongoing monitoring of how your child is responding.

Medication and titration support is available for children and young people aged 7 to 17.5. In most cases, an ADHD diagnosis will need to be in place before medication is considered.

Yes. Once your child is stabilised on medication, it is often possible to arrange a shared care agreement with your child’s GP so that ongoing prescriptions can be managed closer to home. Our team can advise on this process.

No. Medication is one option and is always considered alongside other strategies. Our clinicians take a holistic approach, and any decision about medication is made collaboratively with you and your family.

What Happens If My Child Receives A Diagnosis?

If your child receives a diagnosis, we will explain what this means in practical terms and outline the support and next steps available. The written report will contain recommendations to guide both you and the professionals involved in your child’s care.

A lack of formal diagnosis does not mean your child’s difficulties are not real or valid. Our report will still describe the clinical findings and may offer recommendations for support. Many children benefit from tailored strategies regardless of a formal diagnostic label.

Our report can be shared with your child’s school, particularly the SENCO (Special Educational Needs Coordinator). The recommendations in the report may support applications for an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or in-school adjustments.

Yes. We offer ongoing support including medication management and titration. Our team is also happy to answer questions and signpost you to additional services and resources as your child’s needs evolve.

We take all feedback seriously. If you have concerns about the assessment or its findings, we encourage you to contact our team directly so we can discuss your concerns and work towards a resolution.
