Extended Psychological Assessment

Our extended psychological assessment alternatively aims to explore the unique cognitive, emotional and behavioural patterns of the individual and their support system, as to empower strengths and support specific needs. If you would like to develop a blueprint of your experiences through an integrative lens, this assessment may be suitable for you.

What the extended psychological assessment covers

The extended psychological assessment is a flexible and collaborative service which is delivered with a neuroaffirmative and needs-led approach. This means that the assessment is tailored to your preferences, and the clinician will work collaboratively with you to support your needs.

Whilst the structure of the assessment is individualised, areas that may be discussed could include:

Understanding the Timeline of Difficulties

Identifying when challenges first began, their progression and any significant life events that may have contributed.

Exploring Past and Current Coping Strategies

Discussing the initial ways yourself or your support system have managed struggles and identifying areas that may benefit from additional support.

Recognising Risk and its Function

Exploring risk in the context of personal and interpersonal communication to provide an understanding of this behaviour and its function.

Indentifying Your Strengths and Potential

Recognising your personal strengths, talents and resources, and exploring how these can be harnessed to enhance your wellbeing and resilience.

Considering Your Wider Support System Emotional Experiences

Evaluating family dynamics, relationships and systemic factors that may influence your experiences and support your needs.

Reflecting on Sensory and Emotional Experiences

Understanding your sensory preferences, emotional responses, and the impact of these on your daily functioning.

Collaborating on Future Goals

Developing strategies to address specific needs which align with personal or family goals. This may include providing initial recommendations or suggestions for further therapeutic recommendations and services within Young Wellbeing Hub.

Extended psychological assessment FAQs

Who can benefit?

The extended psychological assessment is a flexible consultation suitable for individuals, parents/carers and families. You can access the assessment in a 1.1, couple or group format with your clinician, allowing care to be implemented across the whole support system.

The extended psychological assessment is delivered by a Young Wellbeing Hub clinical psychologist or senior clinician online, via Microsoft Teams and lasts for a duration of 1-hour.

To access an extended psychological assessment, all clients must firstly complete a psychological consultation with our psychology clinical team. The consultation can be accessed once a successful referral has been made.

To make a new referral, all new patients must firstly access our initial pre-screening service and fulfil our inclusion criteria. Therefore, please ensure you have reviewed our inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Steps for clients accessing Young Wellbeing Hub for the first time:

  1. Make a referral through our initial Pre-screening service.
  2. Attend a psychological consultation.
  3. Attend an extended psychological assessment.

The fee for an extended psychological assessment is £400. If you would like to see our full service price list, please refer to our fees and payment page.

Following an extended psychological assessment, your case will be discussed within the Young Wellbeing Hub multi-disciplinary team (MDT) to ensure a holistic understanding and collaborative planning. You can expect a personalised formulation summarising key findings and recommendations.

Furthermore, you may be recommended therapeutic support tailored to your needs, with specific modalities recommended based on clinical rationale. Where appropriate, referrals to external services may also be made to provide additional support.
